ABOUT THE WORK
In the context of the film DWELLERS BETWEEN THE WATERS by CROSSLUCID, the collection FORKINGS reflects on the often surprising ways consumer-level generative AI models interpret images. Those tools, established to maximise profitability, are optimised towards unambiguous, advertisement-driven outcomes, which are prone to being biased or oversimplified, often overwriting more nuanced narratives. "Forking" something means to create a copy of it, usually with the intention of making minor modifications.
These works question the mental and narrative reality of consumer-level AI, which is optimised to produce and reproduce in a manner akin to a gamified slot machine rather than as a creative tool that can be used in an informed and precise way.
ABOUT THE FILM
DWELLERS BETWEEN THE WATERS (2023) is a multi-channel AI-driven film conjured as a series of hybrid rituals that mediate the space in between physical presence, trauma, memory, healing, and virtuality.
Polyphonic in its artificially intelligent framework, its numerous modalities could be experienced as a series of happenings that are chanted by various elemental entities such as waters, winds, earth, air, algorithms, poetry, history, magic, and human and more-than-human creatures. CROSSLUCID shows the film DWELLERS BETWEEN THE WATERS in different settings and combinations in institutions, galleries, and at festivals, for example.
Extensions of Self: An Exchange of Human and Artificial Intelligence, Francisco Carolinum, Linz, 6 September 2023 – 28 January 2024.
Scene from Dwellers: Seeking Refuge, AI for Good Summit, Geneva, 6-7 July 2023.
XENOSPACE, Epoch Gallery, Virtual Exhibition, 11 February - 15 June 2023
