24-HOUR EDITION DROP I CEVIN PARKER
27-28 APRIL
6 PM CET - 6 PM CET

Cevin Parker is an artist based in Berlin who uses colour emotionally as a constantly evolving source of inspiration in his abstract paintings. Parker is self-taught, and creativity runs in his blood as an artist. As such, he reflects his subconscious, inspired by concepts of an impulsive vision or an unexpected muse. His paintings evoke bizarre notions of abstraction and the American colour field painters of the 1950s and 1960s. The basic idea of Gerhard Richter can also be found in some of his works.

ABOUT THE WORK
"A dream is a complex mixture of memories and unprocessed experiences that represent both the good and the bad within us—both the positive and the negative. Each work of art symbolizes a dream, a moment, or an unprocessed experience and represents a feeling, be it love or anger, suffering or happiness. In our dreams, we lose ourselves in the shimmering colours of Dreamland. We dream of a better world, where the green of nature comes alive again and the blue of the sky is clear and unclouded. We dream of a loved one surrounded by the warm orange and bright yellow of the sun. And we dream of special, magical moments, when the violet of the night covers the sky and the pink of the dawn announces the new day. Dreamland invites us to let ourselves fall and lose ourselves in the colours of dreaming. This allows us to feel free in the here and now and create our own world full of colours and dreams." – Cevin Parker

Cevin Parker uses soft, muted tones and acrylic layers that reveal traces of memory and represent a sensitive reflection of the world without ego. Parker works on canvases with acrylic paint and uses colour psychology research to give his works a sensual effect. The harmonious tones of the environment connect his audience with the emotions he creates within them. The background texture is built up with layers of spray paint to impress the canvas and capture various emotions. At the same time, expressive acrylic colour imprints tell the artist's experiences, where he draws on his emotional state in his studio in Berlin.

Parker has had sold-out exhibitions in Germany, Portugal, and Austria. His works can be found in private collections in Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Canada, Spain, France, and the UK.

CEVIN PARKER: EMOTIONAL ART

EXPANDED.ART: What was your first encounter with art?

Cevin Parker: I have always had a different view of the world. From an early age, art has allowed me to escape ordinary life and dream of a different one. I am originally from Essen, Germany, where art traditionally plays a big role and one has many touching points with it living in the city.

EXPANDED.ART: You have had sold-out shows across Europe, and your paintings can be found in private collections internationally. How have you, as an artist, and your style evolved ever since you first started creating art?

CP: Over time, my art has become more honest and deeper. The way I work reflects me and my emotional states, which made it difficult to focus on a canvas in the beginning.

EXPANDED.ART: When creating, do you have a routine that you follow? Or does the painting evolve with the process?

CP: I work very intuitively. Each of my paintings or sculptures develops in the process of creation. Of course, there is a rough picture that I have in mind when I start, but the majority are emotions arising in the moment.

EXPANDED.ART: You once said that you paint very intuitively and let your emotions guide you when painting. What role does spontaneity play in your practice?

CP: A big one. Being spontaneous allows me to show a deeper and wider range of emotions in an artwork and not be trapped in an emotional state.

EXPANDED.ART: Your work depicts a harmonious play of colours that creates a sensual relationship between the painting and the viewer. What feeling do you aim to evoke in your viewer?

CP: I want to challenge them emotionally and, by viewing my art, bring them closer to themselves and their emotions.
